The Bridesmaids' Luncheon
and Rehearsal Dinner

The bridesmaids' luncheon is traditionally held the Saturday before the wedding.

There is sometimes an exchange of gifts at this luncheon.

The bridesmaids may give the bride a gift, and the bride will probably give each bridesmaid something personal, usually jewelry that can be worn at the wedding.

It is very common for the cost of the luncheon to be shared "Dutch treat" by all in attendance, although it may be paid by either the bride or the bridesmaids.

This little luncheon can be held in a restaurant or a home. It is the duty of the Matron of Honor to be sure this luncheon date is set.

The Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is held after the wedding rehearsal. Lucky for the bride's family, the rehearsal dinner is paid for by the grooms family. However nowadays it's common for both families to share the cost of the dinner. Normally after a rehearsal dinner, everyone is too giddy to go to a sit-down formal meal so you may want to consider having a simple backyard BBQ or old fashion picnic. Another idea would be to reserve a private room in a restaurant like a banquet room.

The Bridal Breakfast

There is also such a thing as a Bridal Breakfast that is generally held the morning of the wedding. The attendees are the bridesmaids and maid of honor and the bride. So it is pretty much the same as a Bridesmaids Luncheon, except held the morning before the wedding instead of the Saturday before. See an Old fashion Bridal Breakfast Cake recipe.
